Team Player Volunteer Opportunities at Sewall House YOGA RETREAT
Memorial Day to Columbus Day 2023
We need two positions each season to serve our guests. We require a month minimum with longer commitments arranged.** A great opportunity for yogis in transition and/or who want to further their practice in a likeminded yoga lifestyle community.
In exchange, you are able to participate in the yoga/meditation classes and as a part of the team serving the guests as needed!
Opportunities to join guests on hikes and lake outings are included!
Current drivers license is a plus as we take guests on outings and do airport pickups and errands often!
The two positions are- (staff manual provided upon request)

COOKS
“Serving as Chef at Sewall House was an amazingly rewarding and fulfilling experience. The immersion in daily yoga and meditation were deeply healing, supportive and inspiring, and I loved getting to know the guests and accompanying them on adventures in the beautiful Maine wilderness. Donna’s dedication to “walking the talk” helped me to expand my own embodiment of the teachings of yoga, and therefore my time at Sewall House was one of incredible growth and learning. As chef, I had abundant access to healthy (and often local!) ingredients for crafting colorful, delicious, nourishing cuisine, and as a certified yoga teacher I had opportunities to teach as well. The adorable animals, sauna, and jacuzzi were icing on the cake! I could go on and on about how much I loved my experience there… I highly recommend it for anyone who feels inspired!”
With love,
Lindsay
What comes to my heart/mind when I think back on what it meant to be a part of the energy at the Sewall House… Trust and Love. Trust in kindness. Embracing our unique talents and gifts, they are better when shared… I came to Maine without a clear path forward, but meeting you renewed all of my faith in the importance of following the call of my heart. I’ve settled into a teaching schedule full-time, and will never look back.
I’m sure it sounds cliché to say that my summer stay with you changed my life, but it really has.
Thank you. V (Yoga Teacher)
HOUSEKEEPING/OPERATIONS
“Love love love working at Sewall. to be in such a peaceful and healing space in beautiful northern Maine is so rewarding. Connecting with guests, helping out with kitchen work, making the rooms up, a beautiful drive to Bangor for an airport pick up, accompanying guests to outings .. all while being able to practice yoga twice a day .. meditate in the mornings .. eat nourishing amazing healthy food.. and connect with awesome people. I wish I could “work” here forever!”

With life one tends to get out what one puts in, I would submit that while “working” at Sewall House, the rewards are even greater. Sewall House is a place to find oneself, without being found. I spent over two months there serving and helping in any way I could. I ran local errands, made airport runs, shopped often, mountain guided, cleaned the house, laundered, taught yoga, washed the dishes, set the table – basically whatever needed to be done. During that time, I also practiced yoga, meditated, ate Vegan, took many saunas, wrote, star-gazed, hiked, boated, and met so many wonderful people from all across the country. All this in Amrita’s loving, warm, trusting environment. If you are looking for a job to gain financially, then look elsewhere, but if you are looking to gain something greater – to live life in the moment, feel refreshed, and engage in enlightenment, you will leave Sewall House not only better than you found it, but you yourself will be better because of it.
